POSITION SUMMARY
Promotes and maintains health by providing medical services under the supervision of a physician.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Formal Education / Training and requirements of the job:- Earned a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner diploma or degree from a college or university.
- Currently licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
- Individually evaluate and treat patients across the lifespan presenting with acute and chronic orthopedic conditions
- Perform therapeutic procedures by administering injections/aspirations; suturing; reduction of joint dislocations and fractures; managing wounds and infections
- Splint or cast patients with injuries requiring immobilization and provide appropriate DME when applicable
Workplace Experience:
At least one year of orthopedic experience required. Experience working in an orthopedic urgent care or after-hours injury clinic preferred.
Equipment and Skills Training:
Competent in the use of standard medical office/hospital equipment and medical supplies including computers with appropriate EMR/EHR, medical software, facsimile machines, copying machines and telephones.
Physical Environment:
Orthopedic urgent care.
Physical Effort:
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, sit at a desk and communicate, in English, both verbally and in written form.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS- Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating medical histories
- Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results
- Interprets and correlates subjective and objective data to formulate a differential diagnosis and establish a working diagnosis
- Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans, monitors effectiveness of plan and makes modifications.
- Exercises judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral or evaluation by the supervising orthopedic surgeon or other health care professionals
- Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors
- Maintains and reviews patients' records, charts, and other pertinent information accurately and efficiently
- Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections; suturing; reduction of joint dislocations; fracture reduction; managing wounds and infections.
- Appropriately casts or splints patients for injuries requiring immobilization and recommends appropriate DME.
- Collaborates with other team members in the development, implementation, and evaluation of an individualized patient plan of care
- Provides a friendly, warm, and exceptional customer experience with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
- Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; keeping patient information confidential by abiding by all HIPAA rules and regulations
