    Application Engineering Technical Lead - II

    Do you get excited about leading a team forming for a new product to solve complex problems for all of Financial Advisor Services (FAS)? Does leveraging modern technical stacks to transform and reimagine a critical data schema for multiple subdivisions sound fascinating? Join us as we evolve the possibilities for our business by building a critical firm admin data domain in the cloud for the FAS Trading product family to serve others across FAS, Finance, and IIG!

    Why are we hiring?

    We have formed a Firm Admin product within our FAS Trading product family that is a high business priority to deliver critical client data in a new way. This product will set us up for the needs of FAS into the future, as we move away from legacy systems and tailor our new system to our business needs. This client data is used across FAS. It will be crucial to an improved operations crew experience and world class client experience for firms who are trading with Vanguard through FAS.

    Here's where you come in:

    In this role as Application Engineering Technical Lead - II, you will lead the technical direction for a new team developing the future client data model for Trading in Financial Advisor Services.You willhave the opportunity tolearn how the investment industry trades with Vanguard for mutual funds and define the future of how we serve critical data to our clients.

    In this role, you will:

    • Set the technical vision and direction of the team as we define the future data schema, architecture and coding implementation in collaboration with FAST and FAS Trading architects
    • You will grow the technical skill set of the team by inspiring and driving your team members to improve every day. Your coaching and pairing with the team will be key to improving, doing what is right for the client, the quality of the applications, and encouraging a continuous learning and experimentation culture within the team.
    • You will help upskill the department in data technologies by facilitating and participating in techtalks and knowledge sharing sessions.
    • You will be encouraged to attend industry learning events, local seminars, and self-driven trainings to stay up to date on the latest trends and available solutions to bring back to the team.
    • By sharing your innovative ideas, strong interpersonal skills, and challenging the status quo you will be a strong and trusted partner for our Product Owners and business stakeholders, working closely with them to understand the problems clients face and translate them into technical solutions the team can deliver.

    What it takes:

    • Minimum of 8+years technical experience, with at least 1-3+yrs in a senior or lead development role
    • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
    • A strong technical background, leading technical implementations across a variety of tech stacks backend experience preferred
    • A growth mindset and ability to go deep on a topic as necessary.
    • The ability to collaborate and communicate across varied stakeholder groups.

    Specializations that will make an impact:

    • Expertise with AWS microservices, SRE and DevOps best practices for continuous delivery, serverless, security architecture, RDS, infrastructure as code. Current languages and services are being finalized but may include: AWS Lambda, Python, DB2, AWS Aurora DB, Attunity/Qlik, S3, Kinesis Data Streams, SNS, SQS, Step Functions, EventBridge, API Gateway, Glue
    • Sharing your innovative ideas, strong interpersonal skills, and challenging the status quo you will be a strong partner for our team and the business.
    • Comfortable with ambiguity and has the decisiveness to drive outcomes with dynamic requirements
    • A focus on productive lean agile development, doing what is right for the client, the quality of the applications, and pursuing and encouraging a continuous learning culture within the team toward continuous improvement.
    • Experience on a data product or with data modeling
    • Experience on a new product and team
    • Working knowledge of DB2 and legacy relational database technologies, as well as navigating Java and UI's in JSP, etc. for understanding current state as needed.
