    RN Labor & Birth Per Diem

    Overview:

    Mercy Women & Children's is a comprehensive service line that includes 12 Labor & Delivery Suites, 2 Obstetric Operating Suites, 6 High Risk Perinatal Suites, 14 Mother/Baby Couplet Care Suites, a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 19 private suites and special suites for multiples and a 20-bed Pediatric/GYN/Surgical unit. All nurses working in W&C Services are cross-trained to at least 2 clinical care departments and float within the unit. W&C Departments are considered closed units, so floating to departments outside of W&C is not required. All nurses are required to take call shifts.

    Labor & Birth provide care for women ranging from low-risk/low-intervention deliveries to high risk antenatal care and delivery. The L&B/High Risk units are staffed around the clock, 24/7 with in-house Board-Certified OB Hospitalists, OB Anesthesia and highly skilled nursing and surgical staff with full coverage Maternal Fetal Medicine availability. Typical nurse patient ratios are 1:2 in these units with high risk ratios of 1:1 based on acuity. Nurses and technicians are required to have NRP certification. Labor RNs must have Intermediate Fetal Heart Rate training and STABLE. National Certification in Obstetric Care (RNC- OB) is encouraged and preferred. A high percentage of L&B RNs working in the Mercy L&B/High Risk units are nationally certified in their specialty.

    Qualifications:
    • Education: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing (Associates Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
    • Licensure: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Arkansas.
    • Certifications: Fetal monitoring basic-advanced: Labor nurses only PALS-pediatric nurses only NRP- All women's and children's nurses CPR-All women's and Children's nurses and OBT's
    • Other: Ability to effectively communicate in English.
    • Preferred Experience: WC experience preferred; or 1 year experience in Med-Surg Nursing.
