Description:

POSITION PURPOSE


Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine accounting and clerical duties as specified by established procedures. Responsible for reviewing, balancing and recording general ledger activity. Keeps records and accounts accurate and current. Researches and resolves discrepancies and accounting errors. Completes related reports, summaries, and records.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES


  • Assumes responsibility for the accurate and timely completion of assigned accounting functions.
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual, and other periodic financial statements and reports for multiple legal entities as well as the consolidation of results in accordance with GAAP which includes preparing reports and assigned schedules.
  • Performs a variety of activities to assist with maintaining financial, statistical and accounting records of the credit union.
  • Prepares and posts General Ledger entries and reconciles GL's.
  • Performs accounts payable functions including processing invoices.
  • Assists with the month-end closing process.
  • Completes accounting functions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for effectively researching, tracking, and resolving accounting problems and discrepancies.
  • Assists with preparation of the NCUA Quarterly Call Report.
  • Evaluates established policies and procedures, and creates, updates, or modifies them as necessary
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with members, area personnel and with management.
  • Responds to members and co-workers in a courteous, professional and timely manner, providing prompt, accurate and efficient service.
  • Maintains regular contact with other departments to obtain information and/or to correct transactions.
  • Ensures the Credit Union's professional reputation is projected and maintained.
  • Attends and participates in meetings as required.
  • Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Ensures work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Completes additional duties and special projects as assigned.


PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS


  • Accounting documents, records, and reports are accurate, current, and timely.
  • Accounting errors or discrepancies are promptly discovered and resolved (or referred).
  • Interaction with members and co-workers is courteous and professional.
  • Good communication and coordination exists with Credit Union personnel. Assistance and support are provided as needed.
  • Accounting functions are completed in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Good working relationships, DEI and collaborative initiatives exist with credit union personnel.



Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Associates Degree in Accounting or commensurate work experience in a financial institution preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE :

  • Knowledge of basic accounting concepts and procedures including account reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of related computer applications.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • One to two years of previous accounting experience preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Well organized.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • High level of reasoning.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced work environment.
  • Good math skills.
  • Cooperative and willing to assist others.
  • Able to use PC, calculator, and other basic business machines.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Software products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) required.


PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION


FINGER DEXTERITY: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.


TALKING: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.


AVERAGE HEARING: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.


REPETITIVE MOTIONS: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.


AVERAGE VISUAL ABILITIES: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.


PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally. (Almost all office jobs.)


WORKING CONDITIONS


NONE: No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions (such as in a typical office).

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables..
  • Able to interpret various instructions.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY:

  • Ability to perform basic math skills; compute discounts and percentages
  • Able to perform simple algebra.

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

  • Ability to read a variety of books, magazines and instruction manuals.
  • Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis; correct punctuation (or sign equivalent) and variation in word order; using present, perfect, and future tenses.
