Heidelberg Materials is seeking an Energy and Alternative Resources Engineer to be based in Delta, BC. This position reports to the Assistant Plant Manager, with a dotted line to the Alternate Fuels Manager.
What You’ll Get To Do:
- Work with plant operations and suppliers to manage and coordinate day-to-day alternative fuel and alternative materials deliveries and inventory.
- Work with contractors and accounting services to maintain record of raw material and fuel inventory.
- Identify and help to resolve bottlenecks and technical issues that prevent maximum consumption of alternative fuels and materials.
- Work with maintenance and electrical department to troubleshoot issues, calibrate equipment and schedule maintenance activity.
- Develop and maintain operational downtime records for alternative fuel systems.
- Maintain systems to ensure representative samples of alternative fuels and materials are collected, prepared, tested, and tracked and that they comply with specifications.
- Organize, operate, and manage alternative fuels and materials trials and prepare reports as required.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding day-to-day fuel/material quality, consistency, and onsite activity.
- Maintain and prepare energy, alternative fuels and materials consumption trends and reports.
- Develop and prepare health and safety procedures and protocols that relate to the handling and use of alternative fuels and materials and ensure workers and delivery drivers are trained in those procedures.
- Assist maintenance and electrical department in identifying and executing alternate fuel system repairs and improvements during annual shutdowns.
- Support preparation of capital investment requests related to the alternative fuels and materials systems.
- Work with accounting services to reconcile invoices and deliveries with a lens to operational efficiencies.
- Follow plant and WorkSafeBC Safety Policies, including the proper use of Personal Protection Equipment. Maintain an awareness of plant environment standards. Take corrective action to address minor problems or report compliance issues to appropriate department for resolution.
Who we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of industrial manufacturing experience and technical expertise.
- Experience in a manufacturing, heavy industrial, cement, mining, aggregates, or continuous-process environment, with a strong understanding of plant operations.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain health, safety, and environmental programs, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Strong technical aptitude with advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, process optimization, quality control, and operational performance monitoring experience.
- Experience managing inventories, materials, fuels, budgeting support, reporting, and data analysis, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships across operations, maintenance, accounting, contractors, vendors, and suppliers while leading continuous improvement initiatives.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced 24/7 operating environment.
Work Environment:
- Role requires conducting business at a heavy industrial manufacturing location where the conditions include moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, and elevated noise levels
