Microbiology Supervisor – Night Shift - Casa Grande, AZ
The Micro Supervisor is responsible for supervising the operation of the Plant Microbiology QA Laboratories, which is comprised of the following functions: Environmental Monitoring Program, including equipment swabs, air samples, retort cooling water, ingredient water, and product samples; biochemical characterization and identification; raw material, in-process, and finished product testing; ensuring methods and procedures are appropriately followed; ensuring CAPA activities are followed through to completion; providing direction and technical expertise to Microbiology Laboratory personnel and to the plant; and providing leadership during problem solving situations related to microbial issues.

What You’ll Work On
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the plant quality system.
- Manage departmental staffing, budgeting, and resource planning.
- Provide expert microbiological support for retort, powder, and aseptic production lines.
- Partner with division teams to establish and refine microbiological guidelines and specifications.
- Ensure full compliance with all quality, regulatory, safety, and HR policies across assigned departments.
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing team members; conduct performance reviews and assign project responsibilities.
- Develop, administer, and optimize a comprehensive Environmental Monitoring program.
- Lead investigations and problem-solving initiatives related to microbial issues.
- Oversee microbiological certification activities for new or modified equipment and processes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, and Purchasing to advance project goals.
- Provide technical microbiology guidance to plant leadership and operations teams.
- Ensure laboratory testing is performed according to approved methods and meets plant, division, and corporate standards.
- Participate in Management Review meetings to communicate microbiological trends, risks, and priorities.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong leadership experience in microbiology, food manufacturing, or related regulated industries.
- A proven ability to manage teams, drive high-performance cultures, and oversee technical quality programs.
- Expertise in microbiological methods, environmental monitoring, and problem-solving in a manufacturing environment.
You’ll be accountable for meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Food Science, Microbiology or related area.
- The position requires technical knowledge related to sterilization methods, microbial physiology, biochemical characterization of microbial isolates, disinfection/sanitization methods, and a strong understanding of aseptic handling procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Food Science or Microbiology (preferred but not required)
- Two years experience in Microbiology testing methods and techniques plus two years Supervisory experience (preferred).
Shift
This is a 12-hour Night shift position from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am and allows you to have every other weekend off.

Training will be on day shift.

The base pay for this position is $61,300.00 – $122,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
