The Opportunity

This position works out of our Burlington, MA or Pleasanton, CA location in the Heart Failure Division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

The Heart Failure team is focused on helping people with heart failure manage their health and ultimately change and save lives.  The engineer will be primarily working on the CardioMEMS HF system, which remotely monitors changes in pulmanry artery (PA) pressure, an early indicator of the onset of worsening heart failure, to aid physicians in preventing worsening heart failure, lower heart failure mortality rates, and improve quality of life for our heart failure patients.  The role is within the R&D organization charged with developing and releasing the next generations of CardioMEMS components while also supporting the current generation of products.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to a team committed to delivering the next generation of CardioMEMS products to help our patients (and their clinicians) manage their heart failure

  • Conduct bench and preclinical studies supporting product development teams for concept feasibility and formal regulatory submission    

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of CardioMEMS electronic designs

  • Draft test protocols and reports

  • Independently plan, coordinate, and execute activity in support of project goals

  • Support design reviews and development of risk management documentation

  • Gain an understanding of the quality and regulatory requirements of Abbott, FDA and ISO regulations

  • Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. 

  • Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering,

  • Experience owning and driving deliverables within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate across the team

  • Circuit design aptitude – the ability to translate requirements into circuit designs/specifications

  • Demonstrated initiative in going beyond assigned tasks on own agency

  • History of applying critical thinking to address design challenges

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail

  • Ability to plan, execute, analyze, and document individual scientific studies

  • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data using statistical methods

Preferred Qualifications:

  • GPA: 3.0 or higher preferred

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a geographically diverse, matrixed organization

The base pay for this position is $54,000.00 – $108,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
