The Opportunity

Our location in Maple Grove, MN or Santa Clara, CA currently has an on-site opportunity for a Senior Manager, Diversity in Research professional.  This new team member will lead the program to advance diversity and health equity within clinical trials. The Sr Manager will develop and implement strategies that align with FDA requirements and corporate goals, ensuring diverse representation in clinical research across all divisions. This role will serve as the operational arm of the Diversity in Research (DIR) Office for Abbott.

What You’ll Work On

  • Serve as the operational arm of the Diversity in Research Office, taking on operational responsibility.
  • Partner with DIR office Co-leads to drive the strategic execution of initiatives for Abbott’s Clinical Trial Diversity approach across the portfolio.
  • Partner with corporate public affairs to facilitate communication, publication and outreach efforts.
  • Manage the budget for diversity initiatives.
  • Support external DEI initiatives as decided by Abbott.
  • Partner cross-functionally across all divisions to develop process improvements to the clinical trial lifecycle to increase physician and patient diverse participation.
  • Influence leaders and peers to strengthen understanding of disease disparities and their effects on diverse populations.
  • Create and share operational best practices within and outside of clinical teams.
  • Manage key themes and best practices from external partner engagement activities to broaden knowledge about clinical research in underrepresented communities and diverse investigators.
  • Develop impact strategy to drive metrics reporting for clinical trial diversity and inclusion strategies, demonstrating changes from baseline data.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on FDA’s requirements, guidelines and initiatives related to diversity in clinical trials.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ project management experience.
  • Database management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Medical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Proofreading and editing a major advantage.
  • Demonstrated leadership/management skills with respect to achievement of company goals and objectives. 
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.  
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model. Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • An excellent understanding of all aspects of clinical research with previous experience within a clinical or corporate setting or relevant clinical experience in a clinical/hospital environment
  • Previous experience in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Problem solving skills (including taking ownership to ensure timely resolution), a strong sense of urgency and the ability to successfully execute in an environment under time and resource pressures.

The base pay for this position is $109,300.00 – $218,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
