The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is currently seeking candidate for an Operations Research Analyst, GS-1515-12T13, at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, VA.
Join Detachment 4, Headquarters Air Combat Command, where our team executes operational analysis to transform data into decision advantage for commanders and warfighters throughout Air Combat Command’s combat airpower, intelligence, and cyber units. Member will serve as an Operations Research Analyst responsible for performing analytic projects in support of units across Air Combat Command. We are looking for team members with strong critical thinking/technical skills; advanced degrees are preferred.
This is a developmental position with known promotion potential within one year to the target position of Operations research Analyst, GS-1515-13. For those hired at the GS-12 level, incumbent works closely with the supervisor in performing duties identified in the full performance standard core personnel document/core document. If qualified, candidates may be hired directly at the GS-13 level.
-Salary: $86,183 – $136,323
-Relocation Incentive may be offered to eligible candidates
-Telework may be authorized up to 20%
-Travel authorized up to 25%

- Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.. Courses acceptable for qualifying for operations research positions may have been taken in departments other than Operations Research, e.g., Engineering (usually Industrial Engineering), Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Management Science.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance
-This is a drug testing designated position. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities required for the position. Resume should reflect experience demonstrating required skills:
-Coding language (e.g. Python or R), probability & statistics, data structure & processing, data cleaning & preparation, machine learning (ML) techniques, data visualizations including RShiny/Plotly, and optimization techniques highly desirable.
-Knowledge of a broad range of operations research analysis techniques and possession of analytical abilities.
-Knowledge of quantitative techniques and methods used to develop, adapt, modify, and apply models to resolve problems or define and clarify alternative solutions.
-Skill to negotiate and/or defend findings and program support concepts.
-Ability to lead study teams; originate new ideas, projects, and methodologies; and execute projects and/or studies within established financial and/or time constraints.
-Ability to develop and utilize appropriate data collection techniques and design, build and use model and simulation techniques.
-Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; negotiate complex issues; and maintain good working relations.
