The Sr Manager, Government Affairs will report to the Managing Director, Head of Congressional Affairs and will be based in Washington, DC. The Global Government Affairs group represents the Company before Congress, regulators, international policymakers, state and local governments, and other stakeholders.
Pay Range: $118,000-$196,000
What you'll do

- Acts as American’s primary liaison to the Republican Conference of the United States Senate, focusing on building and maintaining relationships with offices representing hub states and committees of jurisdiction.
- Educates policymakers on key Company initiatives and general corporate matters.
- Provides timely analysis to Global Government Affairs colleagues on federal policy developments related to transportation, aviation, tax, energy, security, and workforce development.
- Promotes the American Airlines brand with stakeholders and supports awareness of the Company’s community affairs and philanthropic efforts.
- Serves as an active Ambassador for the AA Political Action Committee and represents the Company at congressional fundraising events.
- Participates in industry events and maintains engagement with relevant trade associations such as Airlines for America (A4A), U.S. Travel Association, and others.
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred
- 6+ years of experience on Capitol Hill, in the Executive Branch, or a similar role at a Fortune 500 company
- Ability to work on a bi-partisan basis and to interact professionally and constructively with senior government officials and staffers with different backgrounds
Skills, Licenses, and Certifications
- Ability to build and facilitate long-term relationships at all levels, both internally and externally
- Ability to exhibit an executive presence and engage government policy makers
- Ability to influence through outstanding interpersonal skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills
- Excellent project planning and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively and clearly communicate a strategic vision
