Job Description:

Apex Systems is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Chemist to join our team. This role involves working extensively in the laboratory, focusing on the development and testing of novel contact lens manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will be comfortable handling chemicals, operating semi-dimm equipment, and supporting various stages of the fabrication process.
Pay Rate: $25-$30/hr + benefits

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process Development (80%): Support the development of novel contact lens processes, including extraction and testing.
  • Data Reporting (10%): Perform general data reporting and analysis.
  • Lens Testing (10%): Conduct testing and measurement of lenses.


Day-to-Day Activities:
  • Formulate and blend experimental monomers and solvents for product development.
  • Fabricate lenses in a laboratory glovebox, complete extractions, lens inspections, lens packaging, and sterilization.
  • Submit lenses for in vitro testing and perform specific in vitro testing (e.g., % Transmittance, UV/VIS, FTIR, HPLC) as needed.
  • Operate instruments and perform precise manipulation of materials and chemicals.
  • Extract lenses and conduct tests using the semi-DIMM novel fabrication process.
  • Collect and analyze test data, suggesting appropriate analysis techniques.
  • Analyze data in Minitab and MS Excel, summarizing findings in formal reports and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Maintain the laboratory in a clean and orderly fashion to ensure compliance with GLP guidelines.
  • Manage laboratory-generated chemical waste labeling and pick-up according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Report data, ensuring all generated data is submitted into the appropriate validated and approved Vision LIMS system and Protocol Management.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory records, both hard and electronic.
  • Adhere to environmental policy procedures and support department safety and environmental objectives.


Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Materials Science and Engineering.
  • Experience: in-lab experience (required), experience in medical device or regulated fields, R&D experience (highly preferred).
