Position Overview:


Astound Broadband is currently searching for a Field Deployment Technician in our SW Washington area. This position is
responsible for troubleshooting, administration, installation, and maintenance of the company’s and customer’s
access infrastructure equipment, particularly in our wireless and towers division.


The primary position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:



  • Perform installations, troubleshoot and repair of Wave infrastructure including network connections
    from microwave and millimeter-wave radio headend to backbone equipment/hardware (interior and
    exterior)...

  • Tower Inspections and PMI's - new and existing – perform PMI’s and correct potential issues.

  •  Part of a 24/7 on-call rotation.

  • Perform connects and disconnects, upgrades, downgrades, and relocates; install additional hand-offs
    and install or remove equipment

  • Network Equipment Installation and Troubleshooting:
    o Radio installation - microwave and millimeter-wave equipment.
    o Routers and Switch's
    o Cable Placement -Terminations and Splicing - Optical fiber and copper.
    o Wi-Fi Equipment - indoor-outdoor

  • Basic DC/AC installation, knowledge and best practices

  • As-Builts and Documentation – Create build history/document and upload to the internal Wiki.
    o Perform Site Survey

  • Various tasks and special projects assigned by manager associated with the organization and company
    with the emphasis of driving efficiency and optimization


Our ideal candidate will possess:




  • Required to work at heights installing telecom equipment/materials on towers, monopoles, etc. including
    mounts, radios and antennas – ideally, 1+ years of tower climbing experience.




  • Competent Tower Climber and Rescue per ANSI/ASSE Z490.1-2009 & ANSI/ASSE Z359.2-2017 (will
    certify)




  • RF awareness preferred (will certify)




  • Rigging experience preferred




  • Basic to Intermediate experience is required in the following areas:
    o Physical, data-link and network protocols and architectures
    o Routers
    o Firewalls and switches
    o System load balancing and redundant system architecture.




  • Able to set up and or design simple to complex network involving wireless equipment, Cisco switches
    and routers.




  • Demonstrates ability to diagnose and solve problems.




  • Exhibits the ability to follow direction and possesses the ability to follow through.




  • Must enjoy the challenge of technical concepts and communicate those concepts at varying levels.




  • Basic experience with LAN and WAN Technology




  • Ability to comply with all Company implemented safety procedures




  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and electronics




  • Vision ability: close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus




  • Ability to work in fast-paced and dynamic environments with limited supervision




  • Strong attention to detail with excellent time management and organization skills




  • Basic knowledge of DC components and best practices




  • Basic understanding of the physical network layer, CAT 5e/6, 66 blocks, 110 blocks, patch panels, fiber
    optic cables, etc.




  • Ability to work in fast-paced and dynamic environments with limited supervision




Essential Job Functions:



  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time.

  • Ability to work with small components and wires to make cable connections.

  • Ability to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting.

  • Ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires.

  • Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly

  • Ability to perform Tower Rescues

  • Vision ability: close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Must have the ability to communicate by telephone, correspondence, and in person.

  • Must possess a good command of the English language, including excellent enunciation, grammar and
    lack of slang.

  • Must have basic mathematics techniques

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods.

  • Must have ability to frequently use repetitive motions of the wrist, hands and/or fingers.

  • Must be able to work in a standard office environment; no hazardous or disagreeable work conditions.

  • Must have ability to operate standard office equipment, to include personal computer, telephone, copier,
    facsimile machine, and calculator.

  • Must possess a Valid driver's license and maintain clean driving record

The base salary range in Washington for this position is $20.00-$31.00 per hour, plus opportunities for bonus, benefits and commission, if applicable. The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities. It is specific to Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.



  • Field Deployment Technician I - $20.00-$26.75 per hour

  • Field Deployment Technician II - $24.00 - $31.00 per hour
