This position primarily provides support to project management/housing development staff here at Human Good / Beacon.  Working under the supervision of the Corporate Director of Development and Construction, the Intern will work with project managers to realize a variety of project funding and development goals during a 9-month period. 


 


Human Good, Beacon Development Group is an affordable housing consulting firm that works with nonprofits and housing authorities throughout West Coast States. We facilitate the funding, design and construction of affordable housing developments, managing the entire development process from financing to construction to handing off the keys to clients. As a leading advocate for the affordable housing industry, we are driven by the overriding belief that affordable housing is fundamental to a healthy community. Since 1999 Beacon has served thousands of people through the development of over 5,000 units of affordable housing. We have completed 92 projects with a combined value of over $1 billion.

The ideal Intern candidate will have a strong professional interest and/or experience in urban planning, real estate development, and/or architecture and design. However, additional experience or interest in public policy, the non-profit sector, and/or affordable housing is preferred.


 


Major Duties and Responsibilities



  1. Provides Assistance in Project Development

    1. Assists project managers in researching and compiling data on specific projects, low-income communities, and locations;

    2. Gain understanding of the finance structures and funding sources used in affordable housing development;

    3. Learn the basic financial models used in project development;

    4. Attends site and team meetings as needed;

    5. Compiles information for clients and project managers in funding applications to the State of Washington and City of Seattle;

    6. Participates in site feasibility meetings and discussions;

    7. Assist with finance closings;

    8. Conducts extensive internet research;

    9. Assists in archiving of project files;

    10. Attend meetings with senior leadership to broaden understanding of the affordable housing sector and the mission of Beacon Development Group.

    11. Provides additional support to developers as directed.




Minimum Qualifications



  • Currently enrolled in college or graduate school



  • Some prior employment/internship history/experience is preferred;

  • Demonstrated excellent writing abilities. Experience writing copy, preferred;

  • Demonstrated excellent research abilities.

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point;

  • Demonstrated experience working as a team member;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize required;

  • Experience working in diverse groups;

  • Commitment to the mission and goals of the organization;


Pay is 24.00 - 25.00 an hour
