This SPD Training Specialist/ Educator will be responsible for:
  • Creating and evaluating new policies, protocols, and procedures as demanded by new rules, guidelines, standards, and equipment purchases, in conjunction with management
  • Developing and implementing interactive, scenario-based learning programs for sterile processing and endoscopy related responsibilities
  • Conducting and incorporating an annual needs assessment for competency of staff. Assessing the competency and evaluating the proficiency of the sterile processing and endoscopy staff
  • Utilizing a variety of training methodologies, techniques, concepts, learning tools, and practices to ensure maximum effectiveness of training programs
  • Monitoring, measuring and communicating effectiveness of training programs
  • Documenting training outcomes and reporting issues
  • Assessing trainees’ abilities, skills and learning outcomes
  • Providing guidance for sterile processing certifications and continuing education units for certification renewals
  • Revising and updating on-line course work, competencies, etc. based on new regulations
  • Providing individualized orientation and education for all instrument care, SPD and Endoscopy staff in conjunction with the Perioperative Education staff
  • Providing education and support for the perioperative departments. Providing updates to perioperative staff regarding instrument processing, point of use care for instruments, instrument tray care and functionality of instruments
  • Overseeing new hire orientation for the sterile processing departments
  • Maintaining education calendar of all mandatory and site/vendor specific education presentations

To qualify, you must have:
  • Five years of experience in SPD as supervisor. Two years of experience in SPD education
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required
  • Current certification from HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution)
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills. The ability to speak effectively in front of large audiences
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs. The ability to adapt teaching style to meet the needs of the staff
  • Strong teaching and facilitation skills
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Requires ability to handle difficult situations and a fast-paced environment
  • Must be flexible, adaptable and able to handle change
  • Demonstrated experience developing curriculum using the latest technologies and software, e.g., Adobe Captivate, Adobe InDesign, other authoring software
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to use PowerPoint and Microsoft Office
