Job Description

We are looking for a Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Specialist to review, reform, and mature our formal DR/BCP/COOP program. This position will be Full-Time and Onsite in Boise, ID for an 1-year contract with the possibility of extension.

This contract will start June 1, 2026.

Only work authorizations not requiring sponsorship will be considered.

What You’ll Do

  • Scenario planning and exercising the Disaster Recovery Plan (35% of responsibilities)

  • Review, update, and maintain the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) using the current state-provided template as the baseline

  • Incorporate and own the Business Impact Analysis (BIA) process, ensuring alignment with the DRP and Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP)

  • Identify backup time windows based on priority levels from the BIA

  • Update and maintain the IT asset inventory, including contact information for key personnel and vendors

  • Review and update Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) with all relevant vendors; document and secure vendor commitments

  • Develop and maintain alternative workaround plans for critical business processes in the event of system unavailability

  • Coordinate, plan, and facilitate business continuity scenario planning, tabletop exercises (TTX), and IT failover testing

  • Review and assess the formal backup methodology and strategy; make recommendations and implement improvements as warranted

  • Review and update all Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and third-party agreements related to recovery and continuity

  • Develop and document formal restoration processes and procedures

  • Update and maintain the COOP to reflect current operations, personnel, and systems

  • Simulate turning on the DR site as part of testing

  • Develop or update relevant policies and procedures supporting the DR/BCP/COOP program

  • Help mature the overall program with the goal of a sustainable, repeatable process that can be managed by internal staff upon handoff

What You’ll Need

Required:

  • 3-5 years demonstrated experience in disaster recovery planning, business continuity, and continuity of operations (COOP)

  • Experience providing leadership and direction to staff members

  • Practical knowledge of BIA development and integration with DR/BCP programs

  • Experience conducting tabletop exercises (TTX) and facilitating IT failover testing

  • Strong understanding of RTO/RPO frameworks and vendor management in a recovery context

  • Experience reviewing and assessing enterprise backup technologies and methodologies

  • Excellent business process management and documentation skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with both IT and business stakeholders

  • Experience in a government, public sector, or similarly regulated environment

Preferred:

  • Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP)

  • FEMA Professional Development Series or equivalent continuity of operations training

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or relevant IT certifications

Physical Demands

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards

  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor

  • Must be able to communicate with customers/team members over the phone and in person

  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.

$50.00 - $58.00 per hour

The pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
