LOCATION:  760 Westchester Ave, Rye Brook, NY

HOURS: 2:00pm - 10:30pm; Monday - Friday

In this role, you will:

Under the general direction and supervision of Senior Histology Laboratory personnel, the Histotechnician III - IHC will effectively apply a “general” working knowledge and skill of designated Histotechnician III - IHC related duties and tasks, in support of the Department as a whole, to complete the daily assigned Histology workload.

  • Personnel must possess a proficient working knowledge sufficient to effectively complete un-supervised all designated essential functions of a Histotechnician III - IHC. Must possess a thorough working knowledge of the IHC staining procedures, Histochemical staining procedure and routine Histology procedures  sufficient to accomplish the following:

  • Performance of “routine” preventive maintenance procedures.

  • Perform antibody validations

  • Perform equipment validations

  • Operation automated IHC stainer

  • Troubleshoot quality issues

  • Operation of the automated cover slipper(s).

  • Create and or monitor essential documents through the daily operation

  • Exchanging of instrument specific reagents at designated intervals.

  • Timely completion of instrument specific QC documentation when applicable.

  • Daily maintenance of cleanliness and neatness of Lab and instrumentation in all aspects.

  • Proper handling and disposal of chemical waste.

  • Immediate notification to supervisory personnel of malfunctioning instrumentation.

  • QC/QA of all antibodies.

  • Timely distribution of completed patient materials to assigned pathologists.

  • Immediate notification of existing and/or potential problems to the proper authority

  • Assist supervisor with day-to-day administration of Histology Laboratory.  Defined duties include:

  • Compliance with all Federal and State regulations pertaining to histology.  Specifically:

  • Adhere to workload requirements, including QA, Microtomy, Staining

  • Maintenance of accurate work records (i.e., Maintenance Logs, Temperature Logs, etc.)

  • Assists product line leaders with responding to questions and problems.

  • Evaluates new equipment and procedures.

  • Reviews slides for overall quality of preparation such as staining intensity, proper cover slipping and stain artifacts to help insure accurate diagnosis.

All you need is:                                       

  • Associate Degree or BS in Science or related Field

  • New York State License (Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technician)

  • Possesses five or more years of experience QIHC and ASCP HT/HTL certification preferred.

  • Knowledge of IHC-Special Stains

  • Knowledge of all department policies and procedures, familiar with State and Federal regulations governing laboratories.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, exceptional organizational skills required.  Must be able to work with hazardous chemicals.  Working knowledge of computers and programs.  Good clerical skills.

Salary Range: $45.00 to $55.00 per hour. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply.
