Overview:

Department: Emergency Department
Shift: Night Shift, 12-Hour Full-Time

 

The Emergency Department RN provides safe, high-quality patient care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The ED RN delivers direct patient care, guides support staff, and provides patient and family education while maintaining professional nursing standards. This role is accountable for patient care in a fast-paced, acute care environment and works closely with physicians and the interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Department during night shift, including triage, assessment, monitoring, and interventions.

  • Apply the nursing process to develop and implement individualized care plans.

  • Monitor patient condition, vital signs, and telemetry; respond rapidly to changes.

  • Communicate patient status, diagnostic results, and treatment plans with physicians and the care team.

  • Administer medications, IV therapy, and emergency interventions per orders and protocols.

  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment, discharge instructions, and follow-up.

  • Supervise and coordinate LVNs/LPNs and nursing assistants as needed.

  • Maintain accurate EMR documentation in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.

  • Ensure EMTALA compliance and report suspected abuse to appropriate agencies.

  • Participate in emergency response, trauma resuscitation, and critical care stabilization.

  • Support patient safety initiatives and evidence-based emergency nursing practices.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING


1. Current and valid state RN License.
2. Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
3. Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
4. Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
5. Basic Arrythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire.
6. Minimum of one year experience as a staff nurse RN in an acute care hospital setting; E.R. setting preferred.
7. Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.
8. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

 

Facility Specific Requirements (facility may require items listed below):

 

1. In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN within 12 months of hire and maintain current.
2. EDAP certified facilities: Completion of emergency pediatric course 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire.
3. Non-OB facilities: NRP certificate 90 days upon hire and maintain current.
4. Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNNC) within 12 months of hire required.
