Job Summary:
CF Industries is currently seeking a Controls System Technician to join our Engineering Department, located at our Medicine Hat Complex.
Reporting to the Field Construction Superintendent, the Controls Systems Technician plays an essential role in providing direct technical support and coordination of additional support resources to the Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and develop the expertise of instrument/electrical/IT groups on system maintenance to support the continued safe operation of the Medicine Hat Complex.
You will be responsible for coordinating maintenance and technical support of (ICS), including DCSs, SISs, BMSs, PLCs, vibration monitoring, speed controls, overspeed protections, alarm systems, historians, cybersecurity infrastructure, and advanced process control functions.
Job Description:
What you'll do:
•Maintain the ICS on a day-to-day basis, resolving all error messages or problems, utilizing additional resources if required (both on and off site). Coordinate with personnel in Engineering, Production, and Maintenance as required, to monitor and tune the ICS for peak plant performance.
•Assist in the planning, acquisition, installation, and maintenance of any new ICS. Assess lifecycle of ICS equipment and provide recommendations to keep systems current, preventing obsolescence.
•Develop ICS procedures to ensure work is performed consistently.
•Plan and perform hardware and software maintenance.
•Network with other system users through manufacturer's user group seminars/conferences to implement system enhancements or resolve problems.
•Coordinate testing of all new software and resolve hardware issues by utilizing the on-site support team as well as any/all outside services as required.
•Assess the risk and potential impacts to the site of ICS modifications. Communicate and mitigate the risk to site management prior to performing ICS modifications.
•Support other workgroups by providing technical advice for ICS & I/E related topics, and to support design, commissioning and testing of ICS modifications
•Provide operation and maintenance training to Production and Maintenance personnel.
Identify control strategies that may have an impact on employee health and safety performance and work toward improvements or solutions.
•Assist in the budgeting and planning process for all changes and upgrades required by all ICS, including negotiating technical support agreements on an annual basis.
•Respond to emergency after-hours support requests as required, which may require working outside of normal business hours.
Required Skills
•Experience with instrumentation and controls related to process control, DCS, PLC, pneumatic control valves and systems, basic electronics and motor control systems.
•Experience with industrial automation systems.
•Journeyman's trade certification in instrumentation is an asset but not a requirement.
•Experience in an industrial plant environment
