We are looking for a talented Associate, Database Operations Engineer to join our Advisor Services Technology (AST) Organization. We are amid re-architecting and rebuilding our database platforms to support our rapidly growing and evolving business.  Our engineers are hands-on developers who excel in a dynamic, fast-moving, and agile environment. We are passionate about developing high quality, high performance, and scalable software.  You'll be a part of Schwab's Advisor Services Database Team: A group of thought leaders responsible for database Technology strategy.

 

Advisor Services Technologies is looking for an ambitious, hard-working, and curious Database Engineer to join a team of developers at Denver, CO. This opportunity supports multiple development teams with large client (Advisors) facing applications. You will work with results-oriented software professionals who share a passion for technology, innovation, and excellence.

 

As an Associate Database Engineer, you will assist the AST DBA Team with Operations support (patching, server maintenance, OS patching) in Oracle, Postgres, and SQL Server, Database design, development, deployment, life cycle management, migration, and automation efforts. You will assist with troubleshooting production issues, writing cleanup scripts, handling maintenance tasks, failover issues, and participating in a production support on-call rotation including weekends. The successful candidate will have a consistent track record of successfully supporting development teams and being engaged in DEV and PROD related DBA tasks.

 

What you’re good at:

  • Support end-to-end database delivery for multiple Agile teams
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle, and Postgres; and delivery Enterprise-level databases to production
  • Provide production support and participate in on-call rotation
  • Writing queries, views, stored procedures, and other database objects
  • Implementing deployment standards, recommendations, operating procedures, and cost-effective solutions
  • Implement and support complex database migrations and optimization part of consolidation and technology reduction efforts
  • Training associates and offshore developers as needed
  • Assist with streamlining and organizing documentation, share knowledge, ideas and concepts with the team, collaborate and truly believe in the concept of teamwork

What you have


Required Qualifications:

  • 1 - 2 years of hands-on experience working with Oracle and Postgres database Operations
  • Strong database development skills; Oracle and Postgres Database Administration experience
  • Developing enterprise solutions to support in areas like backup, monitoring, alerting, security compliance, and patching for Oracle, and Postgres
  • Experience scripting languages like perl, and powershell for automation
  • Experience developing and deploying ETL processes for large data sets
  • Exposure to DevOps practices and tools (e.g., github, bamboo, bitbucket)
  • Experience with database performance tuning tools and techniques
  • Strong ability to effectively manage multiple, competing, high-priority projects with varying deadlines and be able to work under pressure during production issues
  • Ability to work independently and work well in a small team fast-paced environment
  • Must be passionate about databases, data, and helping others
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills, coupled with a desire to take on responsibilities and deliver with minimal defects
  • Experience writing good documentation being detailed oriented

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field
  • Sql Server database development skills
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex concepts and learn new technologies
  • Experience working with Microsoft Teams, Jira, Confluence, Remedy, Bamboo and BitBucket
  • Prior experience in Financial industry
