Essential Functions:

This position has two primary areas of focus. Approximately 50% of the time will be spent doing fabric cutting. The balance of the time (50%) will be spent sewing garments from start to finish. During downtimes may also be assigned to help with alterations.


Essential Functions – Fabric Cutting:

  1. Plan how much material to cut with minimal waste
  2. Mark fabric using premade patterns
  3. Decide on the correct cutting method for the type of material
  4. Decide on the correct number of layers of fabric to stack and cut
  5. Cut fabric following the patterns using electric cutters and scissors
  6. Ensure work area remains clean and organized
  7. Store fabrics correctly and check stock levels

Essential Functions – Sample Making:

  1. Sews complete garments for the Product Development group.
    1. This includes first samples, production samples and duplicate samples.
    2. Garment construction includes shirts, pants, aprons, chef jackets, and other garments.
  2. Assists Seamstress group with alternations to support production workload, if needed.

Essential Functions – Both roles:

  1. Adopts efficient work practices and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  2. Makes recommendations to improve processes and internal practices
  3. Upholds Chef Works Core Values


Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent experience

2. Ten or more years' previous experience in fabric cutting and sample making to include the following:

a. Fabric cutting of a wide variety of fabrics and trims

b. Working knowledge of fabrics, linings and trims

c. Demonstrated proficiency with garment construction

d. Equipment:

i. Overlock machine

ii. Blind stitch machine

iii. Single needle machine

iv. Industrial steam iron with boiler

v. Scissors, seam ripper and measuring tape

3. Demonstrated strong hand-eye coordination and a high degree of manual dexterity

4. Demonstrated ability to work quickly while maintaining a high level of quality

5. Ability to work independently with little direct supervision

6. Ability to work in a team environment

7. Must be able to read / understand basic English instructions and understand and speak basic English

8. Knowledge of pattern making preferred

9. Ability to remain organized and maintain cleanliness of the work environment


Physical Requirements:

Occasional lifting of 15 pounds or less (less than 15% of the time) generally at waist level, some above/below waist, none above shoulders. Must be able to stand at a cutting table for long periods of time (up to 70%) and perform seated work at a sewing machine or other related machine for extended periods of time. Requires standing up for 70% of the time. Some use of computer required.
