Description Summary: Responsible for oversight of day-to-day tasks for CNAs in the unit. Acts as a resource to CNAs in the unit to assist, guide, and develop where needed. Performs various administrative and basic patient care duties including answering call lights and vocerus, conducting and documenting vital signs, performing accu-checks, changing and making beds, transporting patients, and assisting with lifting patients in and out of bed. This position will process medical orders and utilize computers for input and maintenance of patient medical information, answer phones for the department, order and stock supplies, and maintains equipment inventory, clear hallways, and clean storerooms. Corresponds with ancillary departments regarding patient care. Works closely with Physicians, RNs, LVNs, and CNAs. Oversees the day-to-day tasks of the CNA team in the unit. Proposes draft schedule of CNAs for Unit Nursing Director to review and finalize. Trains and precepts new CNAs in the unit. Completes pertinent documents. Prepares rooms for admission by setting up IV poles and telemetry monitoring equipment as necessary; After discharge, remove IV poles and telemetry equipment. Assures all patient belongings accompany the patient to the new unit if transferred, or home at time of discharge. Inventories unit equipment and arranges for maintenance and/or repair of equipment as directed. Cleans, procures and returns equipment and supplies. Checks for orders, as needed, and processes according to priority. Notifies staff of new orders and ensures orders have been signed, dated, and timed as required. replenishes patient room with water, linen, and towels, as appropriate. Performs unit-specific patient care tasks (i.e. vital signs and accu-checks) in accordance with skills checklist and documents as required. Maintains appropriate precautions - infection control and patient safety protocols at all times. Maintains appropriate supplies on the unit. Assists with the ordering and maintenance of stock items according to established inventory. Keeps unit supplies organized and orderly. Helps to keep hallways clear. Communicates effectively with other team members during and between shifts. Performs clerical duties as assigned. Answers unit phone responds to phone calls, and patient call lights. Operates office equipment. Demonstrates competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department. Appropriately adapt assigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.
