POSITION SUMMARY: Ability to work independently with minimal instructions. Provides pick up and delivery service for various clients maintains appropriate logs and records and performs various clerical functions as specifically instructed. Transports various items and Hazardous materials to and from various locations and vendors, ensuring proper care of items handled during transport. Provides and/or maintenance of department vehicle(s). Delivers medical specimens as appropriate to the position, following safety, environmental, and infection control methods. Maintains accurate transportation logs, vehicle fuel consumption logs, and other data as required. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Organizes and directs courier routes.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Valid New Mexico’s Driver’s license.
SKILLS:
- Must be proficient at receiving specimens and following written procedures for processing to communicate effectively
- Must be able to operate laboratory equipment, computer systems, and manage supply inventory system
- Must be able to retain composure under stress, to move quickly but effectively to meet patient care needs
- Must be able to time manage a high volume of assignments as expeditiously as possible
- Must be able to understand and follow safety procedures
- Must be able & lift and manipulate heavy objects
- Must be able to read and write English and be able to communicate effectively.
EXPERIENCE: Prior related work experience in a fast-paced medical environment preferred.

-Responsible to: Laboratory Director / Manager of Outreach Laboratory Accounts

(Routine Exposure Risk. Routine exposure in daily duties. Exposed to potentially infectious material on a regular basis and is part of the expected job task.)
Generally works in well lighted, ventilated area. Exposure to disagreeable odors, toxic fumes, and high noise levels and fluctuations in temperatures. Position involves high risk exposure to carcinogenic, hazardous and flammable chemicals; biohazardous and radioactive materials; sharp needles and blades; infectious diseases; toxic fumes. Subject to mental stress from working with infectious materials and reporting results which directly affect patient care. Activities of the job are carried out indoors, at blood drawing stations, or at a desk, bench or bedside. Occasionally, employees may be required to transport themselves to perform their duties at Health Fairs or a patient’s place of residence.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May be required to work more than a standard shift as dictated by workload, staffing, and equipment failure. Sitting, standing, and stooping may be involved throughout the entire shift. Must be able to lift >30 lbs.
