Clean Harbors is seeking an InSite Driver to safely transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste on and/or outside of a customer site, in accordance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) and hazardous waste regulations. In this role, you will operate company vehicles and ensure materials are loaded, transported, and unloaded safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory and company requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely operate company vehicles (tank, van, and/or roll-off) to transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste on-site and off-site in accordance with DOT and company regulations.
  • Ensure proper loading and unloading of waste, including:
    • Verifying compatibility of liquid to tank
    • Checking container integrity for drum loads
    • Adhering to weight limits and drum segregation requirements
  • Properly placard vehicles to meet all DOT and company requirements.
  • Complete and maintain accurate daily logs, vehicle inspection reports, and trip/dispatch reports as required by company policy and DOT regulations.
  • Perform daily inspections and ongoing basic maintenance and cleaning of assigned company equipment to ensure it is safe, mechanically sound, and in good working order.
  • Follow all company and customer environmental, health, safety, and operating procedures at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with site leadership, coordinators, and other team members regarding schedules, issues, and equipment needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support InSite operations and customer needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 0–3 years of experience; prior driving, industrial, or environmental experience is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, generally including:
    • No more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years
    • No DUI/DWI in the past 3 years
    • No preventable accidents in the past year
    • No more than 2 preventable accidents in the past 3 years
    • No serious moving violations (e.g., reckless driving, driving to endanger, open container) in the past 3 years
  • Ability to operate a wide range of equipment and rolling stock, with a basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Willingness and ability to travel/drive more than 75% of the time, as required by customer and route needs.
  • Willingness and ability to complete required company and regulatory training, which may include:
    • Clean Harbors New Driver Training Program
    • Equipment-specific training modules
    • 40-hour OSHA training and 8-hour annual refresher
    • 8-hour DOT training and refresher
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while following all safety and compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commercial Driver’s License – Class B or C with hazardous materials and air brakes endorsements
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Typical shift includes approximately 6 hours of sitting (driving) and 2 hours of standing/walking per day.
  • Medium work: up to 50 lbs. maximum lifting, with frequent lifting/carrying of up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, climbing, squatting, stooping, reaching, and use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulation.
  • Constant use of feet to operate vehicle controls.
  • May be required to lift, push, and/or pull up to 100 lbs. in certain situations.
  • Requires near and far visual acuity, peripheral vision, and color vision to safely operate vehicles and perform job duties (corrective lenses allowed).
  • Requires the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds (e.g., machinery alarms, other vehicles, safety signals), with assistive devices if needed.
  • Ability to work in loud industrial environments and outdoors in varying weather conditions while wearing required PPE.
