South Pointe Hospital’s Emergency Department has 22 beds and provides 24/7 emergency services to more than 35,000 patients of all ages each year. Known for their collaborative and team-based approach, this department is focused on providing an environment for caregivers to learn and become experts in their field. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide direct nursing care.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans.
- Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Two years recent related nursing experience for external applicants
- Review required by the Chief Nursing Officer for internal applicants with less than two years’ experience, but post orientation/90-day probationary period
- Military RN experience considered
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within one year of employment
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:
- Full range of body motion for handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
- Working under stressful conditions and irregular hours
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
- Medium Work, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Physical Demand requirements in excess of those for Light Work
