Job Details Job Description Computer World Services Corp (CWS) is seeking an exceptional candidate to serve as the Data Center Manager for the NIH/National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), IT Infrastructure Program. NIEHS requires support for proactive and effective project management, efficient administration of the Data Center, successful operations and maintenance of servers, applications and networks, and prompt and efficient service desk support. The Data Center Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and strategic planning of the Data Center services at the NIEHS campus in Durham, North Carolina. The role involves managing physical infrastructure, implementing and enforcing policies, and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of data center operations, including hybrid cloud environments. Key Tasks and Responsibilities Operational Management: * Oversee day-to-day operations of the primary and standby data centers. * Implement and enforce approved policies and procedures for data center operations. * Ensure compliance with all regulatory and organizational standards. Infrastructure Management: * Manage data center infrastructure including servers, storage, network devices, and power systems. * Ensure optimal utilization of racks and manage power distribution and environmental controls. * Monitor and respond to changes in temperature, water leaks, and other environmental factors. Security and Access Control: * Maintain the integrity of access control processes in coordination with OSB and COR. * Escort and monitor visitors and ensure compliance with access protocols. * Track and manage physical server access logs. Maintenance and Upgrades: * Schedule and oversee maintenance tasks, including OS and security patches. * Manage installation, configuration, and decommissioning of data center hardware. * Ensure regular deep cleaning of data center spaces by certified providers. Monitoring and Reporting: * Utilize tools such as Solarwinds for monitoring infrastructure performance. * Prepare and deliver reports on power usage, rack utilization, and environmental conditions. * Maintain and update rack diagrams and other documentation. Collaboration and Coordination: * Work with ORF and OSB to manage physical and environmental aspects of the data center. * Coordinate with Government Leads for periodic reviews and updates to roles and responsibilities. * Engage with business owners and IT teams to support database and storage management needs. Cloud Management: * Manage cloud instances (currently Azure) as part of the overall data center strategy. * Ensure seamless integration and operation of hybrid cloud environments. Job Requirements: Education & General Experience * B.S. in Computer Science, Information Technology Management, or Engineering. * Alternatively, four years of related experience may substitute for the educational requirement. * Minimum 5 years of experience in data center management, including design, infrastructure, maintenance, and operations. * Proficiency with monitoring tools such as Solarwinds. * Experience with Microsoft Server 2008 R2 & 2012 R2, Linux and UNIX, NetApp data storage, and Active Directory. Key Skills: * Leadership and strategic planning. * Technical proficiency in data center infrastructure. * Strong communication and coordination abilities. * Problem-solving and analytical skills. * Knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards. * Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, with Government representatives. Certifications * ITIL 4 (Preferred) Security Clearance * Public Trust Moderate (Tier 2) Other (Travel, Work Environment, DoD 8570 Requirements, Administrative Notes, etc.) * May require local travel to customer sites. * This position may require working outside of regular business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays to support after-hour emergencies or surge support. * May require sitting/standing for extended periods and performing tasks involving bending, stooping, and reaching. * Potential continental US travel to other customer locations, if required.
