Assistant Environmental Superintendent Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Environmental Superintendent to join our team. This role is crucial in supporting the Environmental Superintendent in overseeing and managing environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives at our shipyard. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental science, engineering, or a related field, and experience in environmental management within the maritime or industrial sector.


Assistant Environmental Superintendent Responsibilities 




  • Environmental Compliance:



    • Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
    • Conduct regular environmental inspections and audits of shipyard operations.
    • Maintain and update environmental permits and documentation.
    • Support the preparation and submission of regulatory reports.


  • Pollution Prevention and Control:



    • Implement and monitor pollution prevention programs and initiatives.
    • Oversee waste management, including hazardous waste disposal and recycling programs.
    • Conduct air and water quality monitoring and manage related records.
    • Support spill response and remediation activities.


  • Training and Awareness:



    • Develop and deliver environmental training programs for shipyard personnel.
    • Promote environmental awareness and best practices among employees and subcontractors.
    • Assist in the creation of educational materials and conduct environmental meetings.


  • Project Management:



    • Assist in the planning and execution of environmental projects and initiatives.
    • Coordinate with various departments to ensure environmental considerations are integrated into operations and projects.
    • Monitor project progress and report on environmental performance metrics.


  • Sustainability Initiatives:



    • Support the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing the shipyard's environmental footprint.
    • Identify opportunities for energy conservation, waste reduction, and resource optimization.
    • Assist in the preparation of sustainability reports and presentations.


  • Documentation and Reporting:



    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of environmental activities and compliance efforts.
    • Prepare and present regular reports on environmental performance and compliance status.
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of the environmental management system (EMS).


  • Health and Safety:



    • Collaborate with the health and safety team to ensure environmental health and safety (EHS) compliance.
    • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis related to environmental incidents.
    • Support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.


Assistant Environmental Superintendent Position Requirements



  • NPDES Permit experience preferred
  • 5 years of environmental experience in the marine repair/construction industry preferable
  • OSHA 10-hour maritime, construction or general industry certification
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour certification preferred
  • EM-385-1-1 certification preferred
  • First Aid / CPR certification 
  • Confined Space Competent Person certification preferred
  • Ability to effectively operate office equipment, to include desktop computers, calculators, printers, copy machines and telephones
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally controlled work sites
  • Hawaii drivers’ license in good standing
