Summary:
The Staff CRNA functions as a member of the Anesthesia Care Team in a medically directed capacity to provide safe, appropriate anesthetics for a variety of patients.
The Staff CRNA demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
Responsibilities:
In cooperation with the Anesthesiologist, develops an appropriate Anesthetic care plan based on the specific needs of the patient and surgeon.
Assures that an appropriate pre-Anesthetic evaluation of the patient has been performed, to include proper Anesthetic Record documentation and informed consent.
Determines the drug, equipment and supply needs for each Anesthetic and prepares accordingly.
Transports the patient from the POHA to the Surgical Suite.
Assists in proper positioning of the patient in the Surgical Suite, applies appropriate monitoring modalities.
Induces and maintains Anesthesia at appropriate levels, manages any intra-operative Anesthetic needs, seeks consultation and assistance from the Anesthesiologist as appropriate. Records appropriate data on the Anesthetic Record completely and accurately.
Terminates the Anesthetic when appropriate, assists with transport of the patient to the PACU area using appropriate monitoring and airway support adjuncts when required.
Provides an accurate, appropriate report to the nurse accepting care of the patient post-operatively.
Adheres to established safety precautions and controls to minimize hazards of electricity, fire, infection, or untoward reactions; inspects and tests all Anesthetic equipment appropriately before use for readiness, cleanliness, and working condition. Removes and sends faulty equipment for repair, or discards if unusable/unrepairable.
Attends and participates in Department meetings.
Participates in Department Quality Assurance activities, including chart audits and Morbidity/Mortality Reviews.
Shares with Department Staff any new techniques and knowledge obtained at Continuing Education Programs.
Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority appropriately.
Develops effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients and families.
Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts to meet the needs of the Department of Anesthesia and Surgical Services.
Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function, and strives to manage situations in a reduced-risk manner.
Demonstrates excellent customer service by respecting and maintaining the basic human rights, personal dignity, and human relationships of peers, coworkers and patients.

Graduate of approved BSN program
Graduate of approved CRNA program
Current State of Michigan RN license
Current State of Michigan CRNA Specialty Certification
Current NB CRNA Certification
Current BLS/ACLS Certification
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Utilize abilities learned in Anesthesia training program to provide safe, appropriate Anesthetics to patients.
Able to perform multiple tasks concurrently, along with ability to prioritize calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
Able to become proficient in reading/documenting in Electronic Medical records.
Possesses the manual dexterity to perform manipulative skills required in delivery of an anesthetic (e.g., intubation, airway maintenance, venous/arterial cannulation, operation of anesthetic equipment, patient positioning, etc.).
Able to function appropriately at any hour of the day/night on assigned / on-call shifts.

Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
