Duties * Process, handle, and store ammunition and explosive material into storage areas in accordance with Standard Operations Procedures, DOD regulations, safety standards, and applicable requirements. * Perform routine inspections using readily interpretable guideline material. * Ensure compliance with regulated mandates on safe compatibility and quantity distances. * Operate material handling equipment in performance of duties using forklifts rated to a lifting capacity greater than 10,000lbs that can extend to 168 and weigh up to 40,000lbs. * Organize and prepare ammunition and explosives for shipment off-installation. * Make and repair supply, shipping, and storage containers of various sizes and shapes from wood and wood substitutes. Requirements Conditions of Employment * Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. * Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. * Must obtain and maintain all applicable Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B within 90 days of employment. * Must obtain and maintain all applicable government Commercial Military Vehicle (CMV) license with special endorsements/certifications for hazardous materials within 90 days of employment. * This position is subject to random drug testing on an unannounced basis as a condition of employment under the Expanded Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Civilian Drug Testing Program. * The position is subject to the terms and conditions of the Lautenberg Amendment. * The incumbent of this position is required to ship, to transport in interstate or foreign commerce and/or to possess or receive firearms and ammunition. * The incumbent will be subject to routine local area checks. * The incumbent is required to sustain Transportation of Hazardous Material certification IAW DTR DOD Reg 4500.9-R- Part II, Chapter 204, paragraph D. * Incumbent must obtain and maintain training certification IAW AMCR 350-4, Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations within 90 days of assignment. * Use of Measuring Instruments * Physical efforts: Work requires moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, stooping, and lifting. Close eye and hand coordination and visual depth perception is required when operating power equipment. Frequently lifts and carries explosives and related items that weigh up to 80 pounds and may handle items weighing over 90 pounds. Incumbent may pull/push hand trucks weighing several thousand pounds. Truck driving requires moderate physical effort in the frequent handling of heavier objects while loading cargo with the assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment. It requires moderate physical effort in climbing on tractors to load or tie down cargo. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires, and to make limited emergency repairs. Light to moderate physical effort is required to operate hand and foot controls of forklift and truck. * Working Conditions: Work is performed frequently outside in sub-arctic conditions and in unheated igloos or magazines in disagreeable conditions (sub-zero) and where work is performed outside regardless of weather conditions. Occasionally works in dirt and grease and frequently works on cement floors. Subject to minor injuries from extreme cold, stacking, palletizing, loading and unloading heavy containers. Danger of eye and hand injuries from running power equipment as well as cuts and bruises from nailing containers together and blocking and bracing supports. Work involves exposure to unusually hazardous conditions on a recurring basis. This exposure exists during the individual handling or while being in the same room where such highly sensitive items such as firing devices, M-80 artillery simulators, detonators, blasting caps, and point detonating fuses are being handled in connection with the unpacking and packing operations. Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather on public roads, and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drivers are exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
