Duties JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to supervise workers, either directly or through one or more subordinate leaders, in accomplishing the operations of a distinct organizational unit and to perform associated nonsupervisory work. The constructed occupation and nonsupervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the overall work operations supervised is Aircraft Engine Mechanic, WG-8602-10. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: * Plans weekly or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations. * Assigns tasks to be performed. * Recommends and participates in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies. * Implements regulatory safety requirements and ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. * Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization, and command support exercises. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work assignments are performed indoors and outdoors in inclement weather; on icy, wet, and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces, work stands; and in extreme temperature and humidity. The incumbent is subject to dangers from toxic fumes, dust, dirt, grease, lubricants, paints, and solvents. Dangers also involve high-pressure air and fluids, and fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as landing gears, speed brakes, and flaps. Work assignments are subject to engine noise, heat blast, intake suction, rotating propellers, explosive munitions, electrical voltage, cartridge actuating devices, liquid oxygen, and flammable and explosive aircraft fuels, etc. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, burns, electrical shock, strains, and bone fractures. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, and reach. The incumbent frequently lifts equipment and components weighing up to 10 pounds, and often lifts and carries assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items. Work assignments require the employee to climb steps and ladders and stand on slippery or inclined surfaces. Requirements Conditions of Employment * National Guard Membership is required. * Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. * Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. * Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement. * Wear of the military uniform is mandatory. * Direct Deposit is mandatory. * Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. * Must possess a valid state drivers license. Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 36 months of specialized experience in the following: * Experience performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories. * Experience performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and power trains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft. * Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis. * Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. * Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. * Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. * Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. * Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Ability to plan and organize work of the assigned organization. * Ability to meet deadlines. * Knowledge of aircraft engine repair functions. * Ability to work with others. * Ability to oversee and train subordinate supervisors, to deal objectively with workers and render sound supervisory decisions. * Ability to devise new methods. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) is a mandatory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources. NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position. Failure to complete course(s) may result in reassignment or termination of full-time employment unless extenuating circumstances preclude course attendance.
