Duties * Handles ammunition and/or explosives in accordance with established regulations and policies. * Assist units with preparing live and ammunition residue turn-in documentation. * Operate gas- or diesel-powered cargo vehicles to transport ammunition, explosives, special weapons and their components. * Operate a forklift to lift and move loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds. * Operate a forklift to lift and move loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds. * Operate vehicles in all traffic conditions in accordance with safety rules and regulations. * Physically handle munitions for movement and in loading and unloading carriers. Requirements Conditions of Employment * Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. * This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. * Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's license with a Hazmat endorsement. * This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Exam and an annual exam thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. * The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing. * This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. * This position is exposed to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.). * This position require employee to obtain and maintain a fork lift driver's license once on board. * The Lautenberg Act is applicable for this position. There is frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of items weighing up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting of weights up to 50 pounds. * Working conditions - Incumbent works in motor pools, ammunition supply points/igloos, ranges and training areas, and enclosed cab of vehicle. There is exposure to all types of weather conditions and all types of traffic where there is a possibility of serious accident. The operator is subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accident or when loading and unloading vehicles. Work assignments involve a of hazardous material handling, and related activities. Incumbent is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material classes.
