Summary You will serve as an Hazardous Waste Disposer in the Treatment/Storage/Disposal Hazardous Section, Environmental Services Branch, Environmental Division of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII. Duties * You will collect, process, pack, and prepare hazardous wastes for temporary storage and disposal. * You will check hazardous material/waste storage/containment facilities to ensure proper containment and physical separation of incompatible wastes. * You will examine hazardous waste containers at sites for leakage and other indications of deterioration. * You will utilize forklifts, manlifts, poly sheeting, strapping material, pumps, tankers and flat bed trucks. * You will participate in emergency and non-emergency containments and clean-up of hazardous spills. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires frequent walking, kneeling, climbing, reaching, standing, pulling, pushing, stooping, bending, & working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Must be able to work at a rapid pace for sustained periods of time and be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds unaided or by using material handling equipment. Works off ladders & scaffolds, carries heavy bags and/or objects up or down flights of stairs or on a horizontal plane. Must be able to work in cramped and enclosed areas and work vigorously with full protective personal safety equipment on for extended time periods. Working under these conditions may produce extreme perspiration and fatigue. Must continual lift, move & otherwise handle up to 85 gallon drums. WORK CONDITIONS: Works outside under varying conditions including bad weather and is required to move heavy loads under conditions of uncertain footing. Exposed to possible cuts, bumps, shock, bruises, scrapes. a variety of toxic, flammable and corrosive vapors, liquids and solids, & other such injuries. Work requires entering into & working inside confined spaces (i.e. fuel tanks, fuel cells, voids, enclosed-ceilings, crawl spaces & trenches). When working within the enclosure, performing sampling operations, incumbent is subject to exposure to heat stress, carcinogenic elements, electrical hazards, chemical hazards & severe dust conditions.
