Position: IT Technical Writer Location: Quantico, VA Supervisory (yes/no): No On-site/Hybrid Status: Hybrid (3 days on site, 2 days remote) Clearance: Active Top-Secret clearance with SCI Eligibility Position Summary The IT Technical Writer position provides direct support by preparing, reviewing, editing, and maintaining program technical documents, standard operation procedures (SOPs), policies, work instructions, Concept of Operations (CONOPS), and internal team messaging. Responsibilities Collaborate with the IT consulting team to understand client requirements and objectives related to IT governance and management.
Research and gather information from various sources, including existing documentation, subject matter experts, and client meetings.
Develop comprehensive documentation plans and timelines for creating and updating SOPs, policies, and other technical documentation.
Write clear, concise, and accurate documentation that adheres to industry standards and best practices, ensuring consistency across all deliverables.
Organize and structure documentation in a logical and user-friendly manner, making complex technical concepts accessible to non-technical audiences.
Review and edit existing documentation to ensure accuracy, relevance, and alignment with client requirements and project objectives.
Work closely with project managers, IT specialists, and other stakeholders to gather feedback and incorporate changes into documentation as needed.
Assist in the development of templates, style guides, and other resources to streamline the documentation process and maintain consistency.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and documentation enhancement.
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in technical writing and documentation management. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, computer science, or related discipline 5+ years of experience Advanced knowledge and experience in technical writing, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and accessible documentation.
Familiarity with IT governance frameworks such as ITIL or COBIT and a solid understanding of IT management principles and best practices to support the development of an overarching governance framework.
Experience in developing and documenting IT policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Adept at consolidating policies from multiple sources into a unified framework that aligns with the client's objectives and regulatory requirements. Proficient in conducting research and gathering information from various sources.
Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to gather relevant data and insights for documentation purposes. Ability to work closely with IT consultants, subject matter experts, and client stakeholders to understand requirements and objectives and translate them into actionable documentation. Ability to manage documentation projects from inception to completion. Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of developing documentation plans, timelines, and deliverables to support project objectives.
Adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced consulting environment. Ability to grasp new concepts, technologies, and processes and adjust approach accordingly, to meet evolving client needs.
Experience in reviewing and editing documentation for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with standards and guidelines. Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.
