I.                Summary


The Transportation Manager will be directly responsible for the control of road transport staff, drivers, assets and contractors while executing sustainable haulage activity to deliver optimum operational performance along with high levels of safety and customer satisfaction.  This position requires frequent travel within the region.  Ultimately, an outstanding Transportation Manager has a keen sense of business, is a team player and possesses a strong work ethic.


 


II.              ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Drive a positive ES&H culture throughout the road transport team and promote safe working activities

  • Conduct safety meetings with the road transport team, audits and attend EMR management safety meetings

  • Conduct investigations in cooperation with HR and ES&H to determine causes of incidents and improve safe practices

  • Oversee and promote excellent standards of customer service

  • Actively encourage feedback from the road transport team and support creativity and new ideas

  • Collaborate with other stakeholders to achieve broader EMR policies, procedures, goals and objectives

  • Oversee the management of the staff and drivers, including recruitment, training, HR functions etc.

  • Manage activities related to efficient dispatching, routing and tracking EMR vehicles and assets

  • Ensure that optimal levels of vehicle utilization are achieved

  • Support the building of strong and cost-effective relationships with 3P trucking contractors, specialized haulers and related suppliers

  • Develop and maintain effective maintenance programs for all assets including vehicles, trailers and containers

  • Analyze expenditure, haulage recovery and other financial information in order to develop plans, policies and budgets for costs control

  • Serve as a liaison to the commercial team and assist in all necessary logistics operations

  • Conduct investigations to verify and resolve customer or trade complaints. Raise records of complaints with EMR

  • Actively communicate to the TRP staff what is going on in the business. And always promote communication to your team across all levels of the business.


 


 


III.            Required Skills / Abilities



  • Familiarity with relevant ES&H legislation is essential

  • Proven track record of effective P&L and cost control management

  • Ability to communicate at all levels

  • Current CDL would be considered beneficial


 


IV.            Education & Experience


 



  • Bachelors degree or comparable work experience

  • Minimum five years road transport management experience required

  • Previous management of a team of transport staff and assets across more than one site


 


V.              Other Job Demands


 



While performing the essential functions of this job, the Transportation Manager will be working in an office environment. However, may be required to frequently travel through production environments. The employee may be near moving mechanical parts and will be exposed to all weather conditions. The noise level in the environment can be loud and will require ear protection. The Transportation Manager will be required to operate a computer and other office devices such as telephones, copy machines, etc. The employee is required to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
