Please take this opportunity to join one of GDIT’s fastest long-standing growing programs!  US Battlefield Information Collection and Exploitation System eXtended (US BICES-X) is a cutting-edge program supporting DoD intelligence information sharing on current and emerging global threats to mission and coalition partners and emerging nations. With an internationally dispersed team supporting each combatant command, the US BICES-X team is in direct support of the war fighter and their missions. We are seeking a creative and driven professional with a passion for solving real world issues on a cross-functional, fast paced team. 

An ideal Senior Systems Engineer candidate is a strong, self-motivated, solution-oriented individual who will be joining an experienced team to support the implementation and sustainment of multiple networks. We are looking for an experienced, innovative, and enthusiastic systems engineer to join us in delivering high quality IT systems to our customers. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to not only work knowledgeably with the company’s systems, but they also should be able to explain how the system works and what’s possible with the system when working with team members and users. The ability to work well under pressure and identify solutions quickly is essential to support the mission and the warfighter.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, evaluate, and modify physical and virtual compute environments throughout systems life cycle.
  • Participate in system conceptual design and documentation.
  • Determine system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
  • Provide input to briefings, transitioning concepts to execution, course of action (COA) development, and assisting in project technical planning and implementation.
  • Develop standard operation procedures (SOPs) and system documentation.
  • Maintains current knowledge of rapidly changing technology, always on the lookout for new technologies, and works with management to evolve current processes.
  • Download, stage and deploy systems-related security policies and updates to maintain information system compliance with DISA security policies and procedures (STIGs, IAVAs, etc.).
  • Installs, configures, and tests operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
  • Provide operational support and troubleshooting for Microsoft Exchange and enterprise mail security appliances as a part of the Collaboration and Messaging Team.
  • Performing the development, installation, configuration, and administration of computer systems.
  • Provide system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance as needed.
  • Collaborate with managers, network engineers, team members, and customers on solutions and issues.
  • Review, analyze, and verify current security configuration and effectiveness in response to DoD requirements and emerging threats.
  • Analyzing network data and infrastructure to determine inefficiencies and problems.
  • Achieve and maintain Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced system administrators and engineers.
  • Continuous improvement mindset to ensure quality of delivered services.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Ensures the highest level of systems and infrastructure availability.
  • Implements warranty and support activities.
  • May be required to perform duties outside of normal day shift hours.
     

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of technical engineering experience required.
  • BA/BS required; years of experience can be substituted for degree.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in building, maintaining, and supporting Microsoft technologies and related platforms: Active Directory configuration and management, Windows Server 2012/2016, Exchange, Secure Email Gateway, PowerShell, Group Policy, DNS, F5.
  • Understanding of Agile, ITIL, DevOps practices.
  • Must possess and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
  • Must be IAT level II compliant with DoD 8570.1.
  • ITIL V4 Foundation within six months of hire.
  • A demonstrated strong working knowledge of Microsoft and Virtual infrastructure technologies.
  • A demonstrated strong working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with administration, performance tuning, and system monitoring.
  • May be required to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours as required.
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).
  • Experience implementing and supporting a MS Exchange environment.
  • Experience with SCSM and/or ServiceNow.
  • Experience with direct customer support for both internal and external customers.
  • Experience with Server STIGs, patching, Tenable, ACAS, SCCM, and IAVA vulnerabilities.
  • Experience with automation processes and tools.
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining systems documentation.
  • Experience with developing training for both internal and external junior system administrators.
  • Experience with managing, monitoring, and responding to key server infrastructure alerts.
  • Experience with Puppet, Ansible, VMware and IDPA technologies.
  • Experience with current scripting languages: PowerShell, BASH, Python, Ansible, Puppet, etc.
  • Knowledge of networking technologies (OSI network layers, TCP/IP).

The work is typically performed in an office environment, which requires normal safety precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes, or equipment.

The likely salary range for this position is $105,622 - $134,550. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
