Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working closely with other key stakeholders, the GLE Mechanical Design Engineer will perform definition, development, design, analysis, and documentation of mechanical systems and components essential to the completion of key project deliverables related to Global Laser Enrichment’s (GLE, the “Company”) first-of-a-kind uranium enrichment technology development program. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical design and documentation of new process (enrichment cascade) equipment, gas handling and storage system (GHS) hardware, support systems and other ancillary equipment required for the Company’s technology development and demonstration project. NOTE: This role is subject to the incumbent’s ability to hold and maintain an NRC Q-clearance, as well as their ongoing ability to maintain nuclear site access. Roles and Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement current and future design solutions to advance the enrichment technology for mechanical process equipment and GHS equipment.
• Lead the 3D CAD modeling effort for the development of a uranium enrichment separator and related subsystems.
• Produce 2D drawings for component manufacture as required.
• Analyze prototypes and develop detailed final designs and documentation.
• Provide subsystem conceptual design and development tasks as required.
• Create and document assembly instructions for final designs.
• Manage part and template libraries. • Support mechanical design of laser systems as required.
• Lead and/or participate in design reviews.
• Assist fellow designers to maximize CAD performance and output.
• Document designs and concepts via design record files.
• Support procurement activities, mechanical assembly of completed designs, and commissioning of new equipment, as required.
• Verify construction of equipment meets specifications.
• Perform other duties assigned. Basic Qualifications:
• Active DOE/NRC Q-clearance or equivalent (DOD Top Secret)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from accredited university or college in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with 3D CAD software
• Ability to read and generate 2D drawings and documentation
• Experience at producing 2D drawings for part manufacture
• Experience with geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
• Proficient at Microsoft Office suite
• Ability to work extended hours on occasion and travel as required Desired Qualifications:
• Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (SOLIDWORKS, NX, Pro-E)
• Structural and thermal finite element analysis (ANSYS or COMSOL) experience and knowledge
• An understanding of vacuum technology and pressure systems
• Experience working in classified and/or highly regulated environments
