Restaurant General Manager Requirements & Qualifications


  • Minimum 5+ years as a General Manager in upscale, full-service steakhouse dining
  • Proven record leading restaurants with $7M+ in annual sales
  • Demonstrated ability to build, coach, and retain high-performing leadership teams
  • Strong financial acumen, including labor modeling, food cost management, forecasting, and inventory controls
  • Deep understanding of luxury service standards and guest recovery systems
  • Ownership mindset with disciplined operational execution


Restaurant General Manager Preferred Background & Skills


  • Experience in premium steakhouse, high-end seafood, or luxury independent concepts
  • Exposure to Michelin-level or James Beard–caliber service environments
  • Strong wine and beverage literacy
  • Executive presence with the ability to command respect from staff and guests


Restaurant General Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities


  • Direct full P&L responsibility for a $7M+ luxury operation
  • Set and maintain uncompromising service standards
  • Lead and develop a high-caliber management and service team
  • Drive revenue growth, labor efficiency, and cost controls while preserving an exceptional guest experience
  • Oversee wine program execution, premium food presentation, and fine dining pacing standards
  • Maintain a visible, hands-on leadership presence on the floor during peak service
