General Manager Requirements & Qualifications


  • 5+ years of progressive restaurant leadership experience, including general manager roles in upscale casual or fine dining
  • Strong background in cost control, budgeting, and P&L management
  • Demonstrated success building guest loyalty through active floor presence
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and retain high-performing teams
  • Deep understanding of hospitality standards and dining room operations
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on, floor-driven leadership style

General Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities


  • Serve as the welcoming presence in the dining room and primary ambassador of the restaurant’s standards and culture
  • Conduct meaningful table visits to ensure exceptional guest satisfaction and resolve concerns promptly
  • Oversee all front-of-house and back-of-house operations, ensuring food quality, presentation, and cleanliness
  • Lead pre-shift meetings and coordinate closely with the culinary team to deliver seamless service
  • Manage P&L performance, controlling costs and driving revenue growth through strategic planning
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop a hospitality team while fostering a culture of accountability and professionalism
