Sous Chef – Premier Hotel Opening | New York City, NY

Be part of the opening culinary leadership team for a new, upscale hotel in New York City. We’re seeking an accomplished Sous Chef with a strong banquet and events background to help launch and lead a high-volume, multi-outlet culinary operation.

This is a standout opportunity to build systems, teams, and standards from the ground up. The Sous Chef will work closely with the Executive Chef to oversee back-of-house operations, with a primary focus on banquets, meetings, and large-scale events while supporting additional outlets as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily kitchen operations with a strong emphasis on banquets, catering, meetings, and special events.
  • Lead, train, and mentor a diverse culinary team to deliver consistent quality, execution, and timing at scale
  • Support menu development and execution for banquet and event programs, ensuring flexibility, consistency, and operational efficiency
  • Manage food and labor costs, inventory control, and adherence to budgeted P&L targets
  • Maintain all health, safety, and sanitation standards in compliance with local and company regulations
  • Partner closely with front-of-house, events, and sales teams to ensure seamless execution and exceptional guest experiences
  • Act as the Executive Chef’s right hand, stepping into leadership responsibilities as needed

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive kitchen experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role within a hotel or event-driven restaurant.
  • Extensive banquet and event experience, including large-scale, multi-function execution
  • Proven success managing teams, timelines, and production in fast-paced, high-volume settings
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and financial acumen
  • Hands-on, team-first leader with a passion for hospitality and operational excellence
  • Previous hotel opening or pre-opening experience strongly preferred
