Chief Operating Officer / Head of Operations Requirements & Qualifications


  • 10+ years of operations experience in a law firm environment
  • Demonstrated success building, optimizing, or scaling firm-wide systems and processes
  • Strong understanding of law firm economics, billing, collections, and case management workflows
  • Proven track record managing attorneys, staff, and cross-functional teams


Chief Operating Officer / Head of Operations Preferred Background & Skills


  • Attorney who transitioned into operational leadership roles (COO, Chief of Staff, Director of Operations)
  • Experience directly scaling a law firm from $5M to $15M+ in revenue
  • Expertise with legal tech platforms (e.g., Clio, MyCase) and KPI/dashboard creation
  • Ability to command respect, set expectations, and foster accountability


Chief Operating Officer / Head of Operations Day-to-Day Responsibilities


  • Design, implement, and standardize core operational processes spanning intake, case management, billing, and collections
  • Oversee HR, recruiting, finance coordination, and administrative functions to ensure firm-wide efficiency
  • Build and lead the hiring, onboarding, and performance management systems for attorneys and staff
  • Drive internal communication, execution, and accountability across all practice areas
  • Develop robust KPIs, reporting cadences, and operational dashboards for real-time visibility and decision-making
  • Prepare the firm for growth initiatives, including lateral partner integration, new practice groups, and multi-office expansion
