Senior Insurance Defense Attorney Requirements & Qualifications
- Active New York Bar admission
- Juris Doctor (J.D.)
- 6+ years of litigation experience
- Significant insurance defense background
- Proven deposition (taking and defending) and motion practice experience
- Demonstrated courtroom and hearing expertise, including managing cases independently
- Strong legal writing skills
- Experience with insurance carrier reporting and billing systems
Senior Insurance Defense Attorney Preferred Background & Skills
- First-chair or significant second-chair trial experience
- Experience with New York Labor Law (200, 240, 241)
- Catastrophic injury, construction accident, and premises liability litigation experience
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, legal billing, time entry, and carrier reporting software
- Exposure to iManage, NetDocuments, Westlaw, or LexisNexis is a plus
Senior Insurance Defense Attorney Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Independently manage a docket of complex insurance defense litigation from inception through resolution or trial
- Defend catastrophic injury, premises liability, construction accident, and Labor Law claims
- Conduct and defend plaintiff, expert, and fact witness depositions
- Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and summary judgment motions
- Appear in court for hearings, arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
- Evaluate liability, damages, and litigation strategy for each matter
- Prepare witnesses, experts, and clients for trial
- Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to a collaborative team culture
- Build trusted relationships with insurance carriers and clients
