Trailer Mechanic Requirements & Qualifications


  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on trailer repair experience
  • Minimum 1 year of brake system experience
  • Qualified to complete FHWA/DOT inspections
  • Strong working knowledge of air, electrical, braking, and suspension systems
  • General mechanical and body repair knowledge
  • Valid, current driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred)


Trailer Mechanic Day-to-Day Responsibilities


  • Diagnose, service, and repair commercial trailers in line with established repair standards
  • Perform required safety and compliance inspections, including FHWA/DOT inspections
  • Repair and maintain braking systems, suspensions, air systems, and electrical components
  • Complete work orders accurately and efficiently
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe shop and yard environment
  • Follow all safety, compliance, and quality procedures
