Sales Engineer Requirements & Qualifications


  • 3–7+ years of technical sales or sales engineering experience in industrial automation or controls
  • Background selling into wastewater, utilities, or industrial environments
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and PLCs/controls systems
  • Proven success generating and closing new business in target markets
  • Existing client relationships within wastewater, utilities, or industrial sectors strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication, networking, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to independently manage a regional territory and sales pipeline


Sales Engineer Preferred Background & Skills


  • Controls engineering or systems integration experience
  • Experience with project-based or solution-based technical sales
  • Established network or past client base within target industries


Sales Engineer Day-to-Day Responsibilities


  • Develop and expand business within the wastewater, utility, and industrial markets
  • Proactively generate sales pipeline through prospecting, networking, and referrals
  • Build strong relationships with engineers, plant managers, operations leaders, and key decision-makers
  • Manage the entire sales process from lead qualification through project close
  • Collaborate with technical teams to design and deliver solutions aligned with customer needs
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasting and pipeline reports
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and client meetings
