Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Cement Trainee. Reporting to the Process Engineer, the Cement Trainee will participate in a structured training program designed to provide an overview of the cement plant operations. As a cement trainee, you will support the operations in achieving production goals through partnering with experienced engineers and managers in different departments, i.e. safety, environmental, operations, maintenance, and quality control. You will also work at different locations. This position is a training position for an entry level engineer. This position is based in Delta, BC.

What You’ll Get To Do:

  • Participate in production and maintenance meetings.
  • Learn basic supervisory skills by working side-by-side with supervisors.
  • Complete assigned project work, performance studies.
  • Participate in various training programs.
  • Conduct root cause analysis.
  • Support the operations in improving plant performance through partnering with experienced engineers and managers in different departments (safety, environmental, operations, maintenance, quality control).
  • Learn basic supervisory skills by working side by side with production supervisors.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement Program by suggesting changes in routines, personnel, equipment improvement and process improvement.
  • Follow plant and WorkSafeBC Safety Policies, including the proper use of Personal Protection Equipment. Maintain and awareness of plant environment standards. Takes corrective action to address minor problems or reports compliance issues to appropriate department for resolution.

Who we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering would be preferred, however mechanical or electrical engineering would be considered with solid academic achievements.
  • Prior manufacturing exposure / experience a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to other locations during training program.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment with 24/7 operations.

Work Environment:

  • Role operates primarily a professional office environment, but requires conducting business at manufacturing locations and job sites where the conditions include moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, and elevated noise levels
