Job Description:
This is a part-time position, working 25 to 30 hours per week, reporting to the Dean of Men.

Job Summary

Responsible for daily preparation supper for approximately 40 fraternity members of during the academic year. Maintains safety and cleanliness in kitchen area, maintains inventory, and prepares shopping list, purchases inventory items, and stocks food on shelves. Develops weekly menus with House Director and ATO members.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Plans meals in conjunction with the House Director and the Fraternity leadership.
  2. Prepares list and grocery shops.
  3. Prepares supper for fraternity residents five days a week.
  4. Plans and prepare meals with the House Director and the Fraternity leadership for all special occasions.
  5. Ensures food items are available for breakfast seven days a week.
  6. Trains and supervises the kitchen crew.
  7. The Cook and House Director will maintain an on-going inventory in the commissary.
  8. The Cook will attend weekly meetings with the House Director to set goals and exchange information to promote the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen.
  9. Responsible for the removal and disposal of leftover and/or expired food items.
  10. The Cook is accountable to the House Director and the Fraternity alumni board for kitchen operations.


Required Qualifications:
This position requires a high school diploma plus two years of experience in meal preparation or an equivalent combination of education and experience, sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the job.

1. Customer service techniques.
2. Knowledge of MIOSHA, Michigan Health Dept., and Dept. of Agriculture regulations
3. Computer and Microsoft Office 2016 proficiency.
4. Ability to understand and convey written and spoken instruction.
5. Basic cooking, culinary, and dietary knowledge.
6. Knowledge of safety procedures.

Physical Demands:
1. Average physical strength.
2. Ability to use both hands, walk, see, bend, stoop, climb, and safely lift or move up to 50 lbs in order to operate cooking equipment/utensils and move ingredients.
