Job Summary
If you hold expertise in embedded software design with C/C++ on Linux coupled with solid project engineering management skills, come drive our software lifecycle engineering team to new heights of productivity and excellence.  

As our Software Lifecyle Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the charge in enhancing and maintaining software for our cutting-edge products.  In this key role, you'll drive software quality and boost team productivity by effectively managing problem-solving, enhancements triaging and prioritization. You'll lead by example, championing collaboration across the team while overseeing software development and releases that meet customer needs. Your expertise will span across all Precision Fastening Tools and Controllers as you deliver high-quality software releases and make a lasting impact.

Primary to this role is your focus on software project management and managing embedded & Linux software maintenance, task assignments, defect tracking, and release management. You will dive into product knowledge, software architecture, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis. The balance will involve reporting—sharing insights with stakeholders and engaging customers on software issues and enhancements.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the software subsystems and functionality of the products to be maintained
  • Understand, analyze and track software requests from customers, field, service and operations teams
  • Prioritize backlog of problems and enhancements with market & product management teams
  • Ensure software developers are allocated for timely response and problem resolution
  • Maintain metrics on problems & enhancements by customer, region and other parameters 
  • Track releases to customers, facilitate the installation and support for customer releases 
  • Visit customer sites to understand and characterize problems with the products and their working environment 
  • Provide senior leadership with regular updates on customer software metrics, problems, enhancements & releases 
  • Handle internal and external escalations on software problems and releases 
  • Collaborate with architect and new product development team to identify software subsystems that require refactoring; drive refactoring within the LCE team where possible


Basic Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of embedded systems software and tools with a foundation of software programming in C or C++ for connected systems
  • Exceptional software project and release management skills with ability to manage multiple streams of activity for multiple products
  • Interest and skills in problem characterization, root cause analysis and problem resolution
  • Clear written and oral communication: ability to discuss/ communicate problems, features and releases with customers and internal senior management

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements 
  • Site based and hybrid schedule, some travel to other PTL sites and to visit customers.
  • Sedentary to light physical effort necessary to perform the job. There will be extended periods of sitting and using a computer. 
  • US Citizen or lawful Permanent Resident


Key Competencies

Software development experience (3 or more years):

  • Programming in C or C++ for embedded systems 
  • Experience with application & system programming for communication via serial, network and radio interfaces 
  • Operating systems usage of Linux and embedded OSes; expert user of Windows


Project management experience (3 or more years):

  • Strong experience in project management, handling more than 2 projects in parallel 
  • Experience in releasing software for multiple products 
  • Experience in defect and change request tracking at scales 
  • Experience with project management & defect tracking tools; expert user of MS Excel 
  • Experience in a matrix environment
