Description Background Information: Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Systems Administrator to be based in our Arlington, VA office. Overview: The Linux System Administrator will be responsible for managing and maintaining Linux servers and workstations, including virtual assets, within a DoD-regulated environment. This role requires a thorough understanding of Department of Defense rules, regulations, and policies to ensure all systems are compliant with federal standards. All applicants must currently possess an active U.S. Security Clearance . Responsibilities Include: * Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers and workstations in an environment governed by Department of Defense rules, regulations, and policies * Manage user accounts, groups, and permissions using command-line tools and scripts to ensure system security and compliance with federal standards. * Monitor and optimize system performance, availability, and scalability to ensure efficient operation of the IT infrastructure. * Perform regular system updates, patches, and software upgrades to maintain compliance with security policies and federal regulations. * Implement and manage backup and recovery solutions, such as rsync and Bacula, to safeguard critical data and ensure business continuity. * Provide technical support and troubleshooting for Linux systems and related hardware/software issues to end-users and IT staff. * Collaborate with the Network Engineer and other IT team members to maintain network integrity and security. * Assist in the implementation and enforcement of security policies, procedures, and controls in compliance with federal standards, such as NIST 800-53 and DISA STIGs. * Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and remediation activities to protect the IT infrastructure from threats. Minimum Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience. * IAT Level II Certification outlined in DoDI 8570(CompTIA Security+ or higher) * Linux certification such as Linux+ or RedHat Certified Administrator. Or 3-5 years of direct Linux administration experience. Required Skills: * 3+ years' experience as a Linux System Administrator or related * Proficiency in network and system administration tools such as Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls. * Experience with the Red Hat Linux Environment, including tools such as Red Hat Satellite Manager and Red Hat Identity Services (IPA). * Familiarity with virtualization technologies like VMware or Hyper-V. * Experience with security tools and practices, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and endpoint protection. * Understanding of compliance standards and frameworks, such as NIST 800-53, DISA STIGs, and other federal regulations. * Hands-on experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation tasks. * Ability to analyze and interpret security logs and events from various sources. * Experience with network monitoring and management tools, such as Splunk, Solar Winds, or Wazuh. * Experience deploying or configuring Linux environments using automated tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform, or Jenkins Competencies: * Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects. * Ability to learn new skills and technologies quickly.
