Position: Core Laboratory Data Analyst

Clearance Required: Public Trust Knowesis is seeking a Core Laboratory Data Analyst to support the 711 Human Performance Wing (711 HPW), Human Effectiveness Directorate, Air and Space Biosciences Division, Biotechnology Branch. The analyst will conduct bio-analytics research and other professional scientific work, applying multidisciplinary or unique biological science theories and techniques to study living organisms and their interactions with the environment. To be eligible for this position, candidates must have the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance and possess U.S. Citizenship without the need for sponsorship, both now and in the future. Applicants without proof of U.S. Citizenship will not be considered due to the position’s security clearance requirements.    The Job Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:     Assist the Air and Space Biosciences Division (RHB) technical staff in the development of research initiatives in accordance with customer needs.
 
Perform analysis and use systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable approaches to manage projects related to the development, deployment and optimization of bioinformatics software tools and pipelines for analyses of Warfighter performance-related biological markers and interventions in both Windows and Linux environments.
 
Support experimental planning, protocol execution, and data collection, coding, and analysis.
 
Collaborate with primary investigators and research teams to identify opportunities to automate data analysis, and develop pipelines to produce accurate, standardized, and relevant data required for research objectives.
 
Determine how best to accomplish biological science objectives, develop, and evaluate alternatives optimize workflow design, analyze and interpret results, prepare documentation, technical reports, deliver presentations of results, and monitor in-house activities.
 
Update/conduct review of scientific literature relevant to RHB technical research initiatives and communicate best evidence to individuals, groups, and colleagues.
 
Support development and reporting of competitive, well written, full drafts of research proposals, paper publications, technical reports and presentations.
 
Assist with contractual documents preparation, technical reports, and evaluate technical proposals.
 
Assist with the preparation, coordination, and submission of protocol-related documents to Institutional Review Boards (IRBs).
 
Develop and maintain collaborations within and outside of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL); maintain technical and programmatic cognizance of outside technological and research projects and programs; reports status to peers and senior technical leaders as required.
 
Organize, manage, and participate in workshops and technical exchange meetings as required
 
Support the preparation and execution program initiatives, or other work as required, at the direction and input of RHB technical staff.   Required Qualifications:   Possess excellent organizational, management, and communications skills including scientific writing and documentation abilities.
 
Possess sufficient demonstrated content and associated software experience for developing various types of data pipelines. Demonstrated experience shall detail specific software, methods, and data types.
 
At least five (5) years’ demonstrated experience with bash or Python scripting languages and coding in a high-performance computing environment.
 
At least five (5) years’ demonstrated experience of iterative code design.
 
At least five (5) years’ demonstrated experience literature search/review skills necessary to determine optimal software and pipeline design.
 
At least four (4) years’ demonstrated experience of meticulous documentation for all code and methods.
 
At least five (5) years’ demonstrated experience with content and software specific to Multiomics data pipelines including Whole Genome Sequencing (Next Generation Sequencing), Transcriptomics, Metabolomics, and Proteomics. Preferred Qualifications:   Familiarity with military and medical terminology, military medical research.
 
5 years GLP/ISO experience in industry research.
 
Experience in various cell biology and molecular biology techniques.
 
Illumina DRAGEN workflow implementation experience.
 
Minimum 2 years R Shiny experience.
 
Docker experience.
 
Minimum 1 peer-reviewed publication that includes methodology developed by the Data Analyst. Required Education:  Bachelor of Science degree in a biological science field, medical field, or computer science field, with at least five (5) years’ demonstrated work experience in one of these fields.
