Leidos’ Defense Systems Land Systems is seeking a talented Systems Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Systems Engineer will work in a matrixed organization at Leidos, which supports multiple programs at once in a variety of engineering fields with all different team environments, from the large-scale programs that Leidos is the prime contractor for, like the Hypersonics Weapons Program and High Energy Laser Program, to smaller-scale programs for which Leidos provides support as a subcontractor to companies in the top 100 DoD contractors.

The Systems Engineer will support the Enduring Shield Program, which is a ground-based, mobile system that aims to combat cruise missiles and unmanned aircraft systems. As part of the Enduring Indirect Fire Protection Capability program (IFPC), the system protects and defends civilian and military infrastructure and bridges the gap between tactical short range air defense systems and our strategic systems. The Systems Engineer will join a team of 10 systems engineers where they will be responsible for executing verification; including but not limited to: planning, management and status reporting. The candidate must have experience with verification, requirements management, and be willing to bring innovative solutions to the table. When the program ends, the Systems Engineer will have the opportunity to support a different program in the matrixed Leidos – Dynetics portfolio.

A candidate with experience in other systems engineering areas such as Model-Based Systems Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Risk Management, and Reliability Analysis will be treated preferentially. However, a strong background in traditional systems engineering and technical leadership is what is required for this position.

The Systems Engineer will plan, execute, and manage requirements verification in a model-based environment for the Enduring Shield Program. The selected candidate will interface with the government customer, program management, the cost accounting manager, subcontractors, and design engineers to support system verification throughout the program life cycle.

Basic Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with 8+ years of experience or an MS with 6+ years.

• Experience in deriving requirements for complex electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and software systems.

• Experience in formal verification

• Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

• Demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.

• Demonstrated experience effectively leading a team of engineers

• Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

• Possess a secret clearance, or have the ability to obtain a secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates who possess a Master of Science in System Engineering from an ABET-accredited university, and/or have at least 2-4 years of direct systems engineering experience.

Preferred candidates will also have experience and/or working knowledge with:

• MagicDraw and/or other Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) modeling tools

• Demonstrated experience effectively leading a team of engineers.

• Demonstrated experience accurately estimating the engineering effort (i.e. hours) associated with Systems Engineering tasks.

• DOORS and/or other requirements database tools

• Understanding of the DoD acquisition processes and methods

• Experience supporting one or more DoD programs

• Object Management Group (OMG) Certified System Modeler Professional (OCSMP) certification

• INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) certification (ASEP or CSEP)
