The Security Enterprise Solutions (SES) division located in Vista CA is seeking a talented X-Ray Scientist to contribute to our cutting-edge research and development efforts. Leidos SES is a dynamic organization at the forefront of security. We design and manufacture imaging security systems for vehicle inspection used at border crossings, airports, sea-ports, and other transportation mechanisms. Our products include radiation detectors and spectrometers, X-ray and gamma ray scanners for cars, trucks and trains, and CT explosives detection equipment for airline passenger baggage.
The X-Ray Scientist will possess a deep understanding of X-ray detection and production. This role involves leading the development of innovative X-ray imaging techniques and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring new products and processes to market. Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and planning of projects involving X-ray technologies, from concept through to completion.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define system requirements, ensuring they align with end-user needs, technical capabilities, and regulatory guidelines.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in X-ray technologies and related fields, incorporating emerging trends into project development.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with system integration, ensuring reliability and robustness throughout the system’s lifecycle.
- Characterize sub-component performance including detector sensitivity, energy resolution, and spatial resolution.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in physics, engineering, or a related field with a strong focus on X-ray imaging and 6+ years of relevant experience or BS degree with 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience with X-ray imaging applications (e.g., medical, industrial, security).
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of X-ray physics, x-ray production and detector principles.
- Experience in designing and characterizing X-ray detectors.
- Proficiency in data analysis and image processing techniques.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance (US citizenship required).
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD preferred
- Prior project management experience (as technical lead).
- Experience in the field of vehicle and cargo scanning.
- Proficiency in systems engineering principles.
- In-depth knowledge of x-ray production (X-ray tubes, Linac, Betatron).
- Experience with statistical data analysis and machine learning.
- Knowledge of radiation safety protocols and regulatory guidelines.
- Publication or patents related to X-ray technologies.
