R-00145870 Description Unleash Your Potential! The Leidos Innovation Center (LInC) is searching for an experienced Optical Engineer to join our Electro-Optics (EO) Research Team in Dayton, OH. The successful candidate will utilize a strong engineering or physics background designing, testing, modeling, simulating, and analyzing the next generation of EO systems and concepts. In this position you will be responsible for solving complex problems that require multiple technical areas. The engineer in this case will need to be able to manage large projects and work with team members internally to meet project objectives. Addressing our customers’ challenging mission requirements necessitates research and development of novel capabilities. Primary Responsibilities * Independent design, planning, and execution of electro-optical system projects
* Apply physics-based modeling and simulation to complex technical problems
* Perform analysis of large data sets and develop tools for visualization and manipulation of the data
* Work well in a small team environment
* Be familiar with Linux, Windows, MS Office tools like PowerPoint and Excel, MATLAB, Zemax OpticStudio (or equivalent)
* Present project results to internal team for reviews, customers, and at workshops / conferences Basic Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (optical, engineering physics, or similar) with 8+ years of relevant experience or Master's with 6+ years of relevant experience, or Ph.D. with 4+ years of relevant experience in the electro-optical and/or infrared domain
* Must be a U.S. Citizen
* Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
* Project management experience
* Experience with lasers, broadband light sources, optics, electro-optics, detectors, cameras, calibration equipment, and diagnostic equipment
* MATLAB and/or Python programming experience
* Optical design software experience (e.g. Zemax, Code-V, etc.)
* Strong communication and organization skills Preferred Qualifications * Master’s degree or PhD in optical engineering or physics
* Strong statistics education or experience
* Experience modeling and testing high-power laser systems
